Be the change - be part of something bigger...
Be the change - be part of something bigger...
Telling your story can be a deeply personal and powerful way to share your experiences, struggles and achievements. Don't worry! We can help you and guide you through the process.
What sort of stories are we looking for?
We are inviting Sea to Sky residents, families, businesses and other organizations to contact us with any stories, anecdotes or memories that can help us build the picture of how racial diversity has contributed to the region.
Family story (stories)
Did your family settle in the Sea to Sky one, two or more generations ago? Do you or your family have memories or stories of how they came and settled in the region? What was the community like when your family arrived?
Cultural heritage story (stories)
What traditions and customs did you bring over that have been passed down through generations? Do you have any photos/videos you are willing to share?
Do you have any memories of favourite community cultural events, cultural spaces or get-togethers such as weddings, parties, dinners etc with your and other community members?
Public office story (stories)
Do you know about other diverse community members who were important in the local business, civic, or social areas? Did they start or own a business? Did they hold public office? Did they donate to the local community?
How can you tell your story? However you tell your story, we'd love to hear from you...
Make a storyboard – use the template to show/tell the story of how you came here, or how your family came to be here. We have created this storyboards to give you some prompts and make it easier. There are storyboard workshops we organize in a collaboration with Jill Dawson, who is an Expressive Arts Practitioner. Her love of the arts – movement, theatre, music, painting, poetry and narrative – combined with her love of creative learning give her workshops a sense of freedom and enjoyment that is both playful and insightful. You will approach the story telling from the artistic point of view. This is for those with a creative mind.
Write a blog post or be interviewed for our blog: Raising Diverse Voices. Read the questions and you can either write your own answers or contact us to be interviewed. We will write a draft blog article for you to check and change before we post it.
Tell your story by video – check out an example of a video at the WMS Youtube. You can video yourself or contact us and we’ll meet with you to record and interview on video.
Ask us how you can be featured in a podcast - you will speak about your journey, and it can be either you or perhaps with another family member of yours or your friend? This method is currently in underway.
Your story, whether it’s a storyboard, a written article, or a video interview will be shared on the Whistler Multicultural Society blog: Raising Diverse Voices, and on our social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube).
If you are feeling confident and inspired we can provide opportunities for you to participate in story telling events and community gatherings, where you can speak and share with others. Check out our Upcoming events for more info. This is a great way how to engage with wider community and empower others. You will essentially become one of our Cultural Ambassadors.
